2009 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

  • Chassis no. ZAR92000000044572

Without Reserve

Documents: Lithuanian Vehicle Registration

  • One of just 500 8C coupés built
  • Heritage-laced Alfa Red over black leather scheme
  • Less than 7,800 km from new

Alfa Romeo’s post-war reinvention as a sports car manufacturer for the masses ensured the brand’s survival. Enthusiasts were left wanting until the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, when the Milanese automaker honoured its racing past with the 8C Competizione show car. The 8C Competizione’s name may have been derived from the 1950 6C Competizione that Juan Miguel Fangio drove in the 1950 Mille Miglia, but the flagship’s design was all 21st century.

Nearly 1,500 orders were placed before the V-8–powered production variant debuted in Detroit—a clear signal that Alfa Romeo intended to return to the lucrative American market. Under its carbon fibre body, which stayed true to the concept, the 8C Competizione used a Ferrari-derived 4.7-litre V-8 rated at 450 bhp. A six-speed electronically controlled manual transaxle with paddle shifters sent power rearward. Just 1,000 examples were built, split evenly between a coupé and a roadster.

As a harbinger of things to come, the 8C’s influence resonates in the growing Alfa Romeo line-up today.

The 8C Competizione offered here is swathed in the automaker’s distinctive Alfa Red paint hue over black leather and was delivered new in the spring of 2009 in the Upper Franconian region of Germany. Showing under 7,800 km, it presents as new.
